Happy dipawali!

  1. Dear sister, what is difference betwen "Diwali" and "Depawali". I have seen Hindus worshiping in hindi films but I do not really know much about Hindu beliefs.

    diwali and dipawali are the same festival.. i think you have heard about the ramayana, the epic in which the mortal life of shriramchandra is described.

    when he returned to ayodhya after killing ravana and rescuing sita the people of ayodhya decorated the country with earthen lamps.. thus the name of the festival and the tradition of decorating homes with light.

    we bengalis celebrate kalipuja on the same day, earlier it was only worshipping of mother goddess kali but since centuries both traditions have punched, on one hand mother is worshipped on the other hand homes are decorated with light and crackers are fired :)
