Welcome visitor

Well, yesterday morning something jolted me out of my sleep at five fifteen and I have never been so happy in my life. Usually its my landlords or their tiny grandson jolt me out of sleep but yesterday’s intruder to my dreamland was not them, for a change he was blessed from heart. A bird, pouring down a cascade of music in my ears.. he transported me back to months of blissfull ecstassy… time which wont be back but relished then and now, not actually missed.

There was an old mango tree just outside my window, it was a wonderful heaven for birds, I have seen so many types of birds there … three favourites were koyal, doyel and benebou. First two for their songs and third one for its dazzling beauty.

Koyels simply sing but when doyels sing they pour down a cascade of music, that’s the only way of describing their music. Only those who have heard them will realize the truth of these words.

Back at my ancestral home it was the job of these tiny beings to wake me up at 4 a.m., yes mysteriously they were almost punctual.. they used to sing filling up their tiny hearts and mine for a long time. Yesterday it happened after years, a brother of theirs woke me up in kolkata.. just believe IN KOLKATA, I blessed him with all my heart and soul. I have seen a female around, so I would have assumed that her mate is also around but the knowledge dawned after hearing him.

  1. Congratulations trisha, for being so lucky to hear the songs of koyel even in Kolkata.
trisha, such are the songs found in nature wich attract me very much. I like nature and therefore want to appreciate the way you study nature around you.
    Dear Sister,
You have remided me of the scenes of my village in Kashmir.

Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful story of your "visitors".

    trisha, koyel,doyel and benebou

  2. dearest bro,
koyels are fortunately still available in kolkata, i often hear them, but the music of doyel (pic encl) was a very pleasant surprise.. if i could make him sing for me then i would have recorded his song and you would have known how fabulous a singer he is.. i have heard a lot of song birds but none comes close to him..

  3. Good to know that you still have an eye for the birds, the nature around you. Thanks for sharing this.

In Kolkata, these birds are really very rare. I have, may be, heard a koyel sing around 3 months back.

  4. dear shankha,
i am luckier than you, in my locality (garia) i often hear a kokil.. i heard him even yesterday.
being born in a tiny town and after living most of my life in burdwan i do associate closely with nature and ever since i have started to live in kolkata i have started to love birds and animals i ignored earlier.. like seven sisters..:)
