Well, we should have anticipated it, when we were blessed by chilling winter this year (that is 2009-10) that a scorching summer might be looming for us in the horizon.
I relished the winter to the core, which a lot of Kolkata people did not, they were frozen. I wonder how are they reacting to this terrible heat. I guess not much because almost every house in Kolkata uses air-conditioners these days. So they just utilize that thing to relax their scorched bodies.
Me and pixie are spending semi sleepless nights these days. Its fun to watch her, sometimes looking at me from her bed, or sprawling on the floor all exhausted. I too in my turn sometimes see her sleeping with an exasperated expression. We both finally retire with the cool of dawn seeping in.
Is a torrential rain-cladded monsoon waiting for us in the horizon?
Even the thought makes me shiver with fear.
Last night I kept pixie up all night, till four thirty in the morning. Poor baby was at her wit’s end. She was visibly relieved when I retired.

Summer this time in Kolkata has the killer instinct mixed with the messiness of the traffic management of Kolkata, and the extreme unbearable humidity forcing you to fight for breath... more and more is coming in my mind as well. Thanks for the post, but please let Pixie sleep even if you cannot, she is not from a species that adjust life till death.
ReplyDeleteAlso please tell your friends who hate winter to travel around in buses of Kolkata, especially at North Kolkata, at any time of the day they prefer, I assure you, they will start loving winter like all of us.
this year i am happy that i dont go out of home.
ReplyDeletethis year the summer is simply horrible.
dont worry, i let pixie sleep to his (he is a boy) heart's content, he starts to implore me to let him out the moment he opens his tiny eyes :)
i dont think you know how persuasive cats can be.
Tremendous heat here too in NY. Hottest I can remember in a long time. I love summer so I'm glad for it, but I hear a lot of complaining.
ReplyDeletei love winter thats the only season when we get a little relief from sweating :)
